6th Grade Art page is all up to date

My 6 th grade students learned about 1 Point or Linear perspective. They created a room or city with a main focus  to showcase their new drawing skills. One of our fun final activity my students learned about macramé. They learned how to make square knots , create patterns and how important it was to have  the right  tension. They made necklaces, anklets or bracelets

Seniors Pottery

I created a page for each of my pottery seniors. They were introduced to the pottery wheel and one of their assignment was to create a tea set with a theme “Some of the Greatest Fairy Tales Ever Told!” using any building technique they learned in Pottery 1

6th Grade Animation

6th grade students are working on  their “Animation” project.  We have a few finished projects, keep checking  to see more . I will post them as students complete their animation. This is a very exciting project, they are using their artistic abilities in creating their own cartoon characters. they have to come up with a situation and learn about technology. It has been a challenge working with shared laptops. 6th grade students are not as lucky as 7th and 8th grade students. They have to share 1 set of laptops for the team. They each have an account on the school server. We had to work through many little kinks and they had to be patients. Our motto this past week is “Go with the FLOW!” .  On May 12 , 2011, we had our first animation. It is now on the Art page enjoy!I welcome any comments from my students and parents.

6th Grade Students Create Beautiful Marionettes!

6th grade students created these marionettes. After planning their design, they used clay to make a hollow head, hands and feet. The bodies are made of 2 plastic bags. Great way to recycle! Students were given a pattern as a starting point. They were encouraged to use old t-shirts or clothes that do not fit them anymore to make the clothes.. The bodies had to be made at home. The marionettes were put together at school.

Opening Reception at the Gallery on the Green A SUCCESS!

I would like  to thank the Gallery on the Green for  giving Massabesic Students this opportunity to exhibit their work in a professional setting. The evening was wonderful. My students were so happy to show friends and family their work; they also had a chance to meet the 3 Artists from the Gallery: Roger Deering Jr. , Susan Mesick, Ann Marie Therrien. They each received art supplies and a certificate.  The Expo 2011 is  on display until Saturday April 23, 2011. The Gallery is closed on Easter Sunday . Mr. Minelly’s son Peter, the owner of the Gallery, came up with the idea of the Expo 2011 for one of his High School business course. Great idea.

If you are in Alfred Maine,  stop in and check out  the Gallery. Go to their website to see their hours and the featured Artists.

Massabesic High School Pottery 2

The final trimester is underway. My pottery 2 students just had their 1st experience with the wheel. They realized that it can be lots of fun and very rewarding to see their 1stsuccessful pot. They also realized that it takes much practice. You can view a Photo Stack and a Short Video of this process.  If you want to see a Better Quality Video click here. This is a large file , be patient.  Click on the links and enjoy!

Grade 6 Portrait Paintings

In this painting unit 6th grade students learned about drawing a face using proportion as a measuring tool. They also reviewed the color wheel and identified 6 different color schemes. When they started painting, they had to choose their schemes from: cool, warm, complementary, split complementary, monochromatic and analogous colors. They did a lot of mixing with tones to make their painting more interesting. They learned a lot about colors. And most of all that PAINTING IS FUN!

Happy Holidays to all my students!

On December 20th my sixth grade students has fun making giant snowflakes. This was the last day before Winter Break. We took that opportunity to take a group picture. It is always fun using the self timer on the camera. The anticipation of the flashing light always put a smile on our faces. Click on the team’s name to see the pictures.
